~A Historical Moment in the North of Scotland~
The inauguration of the Aberdeen Parish
On the 16th of January 2010, the orthodox Romanian community in Aberdeen has witnessed a moment of historical importance, due to the pastoral visit of His Eminence Iosif, Metropolitan for Western and Southern Europe. This was the first visit of a Romanian Orthodox Church leader and also, from the data collected from the sister churches by Father Marcel, it seems that the Holy Hierarchal liturgy served on Saturday was the first liturgy celebrated by an orthodox Metropolitan ever.
The main purpose of this pastoral visit was the inauguration of the first Romanian orthodox parish in Aberdeen dedicated to the holy and righteous Saints Joachim and Anna, just a year after the parish in Glasgow was set up.
Father Gabriel Hlade, appointed parish priest, will continue the activity lead by Father Marcel from Glasgow, the founder of this parish and the one who nurtured the spiritual needs of the Aberdeen orthodox community.
His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif celebrated the Hierarchar Vespers on the 15th of January in "St John`s" Episcopal Church and on the next day, he served the Divine Liturgy at St Ninian`s Church. The Episcopal Church was again very kind to help with the hosting of the events, just like in Glasgow.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif, has underlined the importance the orthodox mission in Diaspora that helps reunite people from different backgrounds, nationality or denominations. His Eminence extended his stay in the United Kingdom by taking part at the patronal feast of the church "St Macarios The Great" in Leeds on the 17th of January.
